Global Messaging App Users to Surpass 3 Billion in 2021

The pandemic has accelerated the shift towards to digital world and online retailers like Walmart, Amazon, and Albertsons Companies have expanded their digital presence. In the U.S, before the pandemic, about 84% of the people opt for in stores for their grocery shopping and this number was declined to 70% in 2021. As per the recent survey, 16% of the people choose digital options for grocery shopping and 12% of them prefer both options.

A new survey published by Deutsche Bank estimates that the Walmart+ subscription service has reached about 32 million U.S. households. The survey reveals that 86% of Walmart subscribers have Amazon Prime subscription service too, 61% of Walmart+ subscriber earns an annual household income of more than $50,000 whereas 33% earns more than $100,000 per year. Walmart+ subscription service costs about $99 per year or $12.95 per month. This subscription includes free grocery delivery to the doorstep for orders above $35, fuel discounts and access to the Scan-and-Go app which allows people to just skip the checkout line.

In the U.S, the Advertising-Based Video-On-Demand (AVOD) service was rapidly increasing as it is affordable and a substitute for pay TV services. AVOD service has 38.6% subscribers in 2019, 30.3% in 2020 and in 2021 it is predicted that the growth rate was pulled up by 17.6% of 128 million people. This clearly indicates that 50% of the U.S digital video population are watching AVOD services.

In the U.S there is a sudden rise in retail sales as there is strong consumer demand for merchandise. There is a 0.7% rose in retail purchases and this is the highest gain in the last five months. The grocery stores have seen a growth of 2.1%. As per Commerce Department’s report, 10 out of 13 categories in the retail category have entered sales growth. On the other hand, the sales were drop at car dealers, electronics and appliances, sporting goods and hobby stores. The auto dealers, building materials stores and gasoline stations sales pulled up by 2.5% in August.

During pandemic, mobile messaging app growth has been accelerated as it helped people to stay connected with their loved ones. Throughout worldwide the percentage of monthly messaging app users have been rose to 6.1% of 3.09 billion in 2021. By 2024 three fourth of the internet users would use the mobile messaging app. But in the U.S the usage was limited to 60.4% as free and unlimited SMS messaging and the majority of them are iPhone users.
