Gen Z Fuels Social Commerce Boom This Holiday Season

Gen Z is leading the shift toward social commerce, with 42% planning to buy holiday gifts via social media, far more than older generations. Mobile shopping has also surged, accounting for nearly 48% of online sales, and social commerce sales in the U.S. are projected to reach $82.82 billion this year. Platforms like TikTok are tapping into this trend with features like TikTok Shop, enabling businesses to sell directly through social media.

A New Adobe Analytics report stated that in this holiday season, 53% of online sales are expected to occur on mobile devices, as mobile shopping surpasses desktop. From the past 6 months, consumer purchasing through mobile phones rose to 10.2% YOY, accounting for nearly 48% of total online sales. Mobile shopping is becoming more common for frequent, lower-priced purchases, and this trend is expected to drive a major shift in consumer behavior online, as more significant purchases begin moving to mobile. Adobe suggests that brands have an opportunity to refine mobile experiences to close the gap in basket sizes, which are currently 32% smaller on mobile than on desktop.

Target returned to growth in Q2 with a 2.6% increase in sales to $25 billion and a 43% rise in net earnings to $1.2 billion. Comparable sales grew 2%, driven by an 8.7% jump in digital sales, with same-day services accounting for over two-thirds of digital sales. While linear TV viewership will decline by 1.5% next year, it will still dominate video viewing time. U.S. adults spend nearly three hours daily on linear TV in 2025, versus 53 minutes on social video and 37 minutes on YouTube.

Benefiting significantly from the AI boom, Nvidia's revenue grew 122% annually, fueled by a 154% increase in its data center business.

Salesforce reported strong fiscal Q2 results that beat estimates and raised its full-year profit outlook. The company revenue predicted $9.23 billion versus $9.33 billion exceeding forecasts. Additionally, CFO Amy Weaver will step down once a successor is named but will remain an advisor. Salesforce's guidance for fiscal 2025 earnings has also been raised, with revenue growth projected at 8% to 9%.
